In 2017, we spent the winter in Sarasota, Florida. On the way home, I was fortunate enough to get the OK to spend Practice Monday at the Masters. I bought a ticket online (the price dropped from over $500 US to about $250 US on the Sunday night) and drove from Savannah to Augusta in the morning. Did you know there's FREE parking for over 8,000 cars - if you get there early! And at the 16th hole, the players practice by skipping the ball on the water to get on the green. More than a few made it!
In 2017, I decided to go on a bucket list trip. My wife and I traveled to Scotland, where I managed to play The Old Course and Carnoustie on successive days. The "St Andrews Experience" was amazing. I didn't have a tee time, so I lined up at 1 am. Download the St Andrews Experience PDF below to read about all the details!
In November 2018, we visited Maui. We stayed in Ka'anapali, just down the road from the Kapalua Plantation course, where the annual Tournament of Champions is played. After taking a look at the course, we decided to splurge and I'd play it ($249 for twilight rate - 1 pm) and Wanda would ride along ($50). The highlights of the course are the 17th and 18th holes, which descend from the highest point in the course back to the clubhouse. The 17th is a 508 yard (Tournament tees) par 4, and 18 is a 663 yard par 5. We played with a gentleman from Singapore, and a local couple that had played the course lots of times. Needless to say, their help was invaluable. They also pointed out highlights, like where famous people lived, where Dustin Johnson drove the green on a 400+ yard par 4 and came up about 6 inches short of a hole-in-one, and where Bubba drove the ball through the green on another par 4. Tick another item off the list (although, truth-be-told, it wasn't my list before I saw the course). Take a look at the pictures in the gallery.
